Upcycling: the crackle effect

The crackle effect is a decorative technique used to age furniture. It can be reproduced at low cost using acrylic paint and glycerine paint in different colours. Then protect with clear wax,

Steps for obtaining a crackled effect with paint:

- Start by lightly sanding your surface with medium-grit sandpaper, then using a flat brush with soft bristles, apply a first coat of glycerine paint diluted in white spirit. Once the paint is dry, apply a second coat of undiluted glycerine;

- Wait for the glycerine to dry completely, then apply a coat of acrylic. After a few hours, the two products will react together and the paint should crack;

- Finally, apply a coat of colourless wax with a cloth to protect your furniture and limit paint flaking.
